Professor Thanh Van Tran is a renowned French physicist of Vietnamese origin. Born in Hanoi, Vietnam, he is best known for his contributions to the field of particle physics. He co-founded the Rencontres de Moriond (Moriond Conferences), an annual series of international conferences on high-energy physics.
In April 2012, he was one of three Asians awarded the Tate Medal at the American Physical Society meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. He has also been honored with the Legion of Honour, the National Order of Merit (Commander), the Order of Academic Palms (Commander), and the Vietnam Friendship Order, among others.
He is the co-author of over 300 scientific papers. He was one of the initiators of the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2021. His work has not only enriched the scientific community but also strengthened scientific ties between France and Vietnam.
Together with his wife, Professor Le Kim Ngoc, he helped establish SOS Children’s Villages in Da Lat and Dong Hoi, as well as the Thuy Xuan Center for Children in Need (Hue).
