Coach Mai Duc Chung is the head coach of the Vietnam women’s national football team. He has dedicated over 40 years to the nation’s sports and has brought glory to the country alongside the women’s team.
As a player, Mr. Chung won the national championship in 1980 with the General Department of Railways team. He played for the national team from 1981 to 1984.
After retiring as a player, Mr. Chung began his coaching career in 1984, starting with the General Department of Railways’ youth team. He took charge of the Vietnam women’s national team for the first time in 1997, while his first stint leading the Vietnam men’s national team was in 2017.
Coach Mai Duc Chung won the V-League title in 2015 with Binh Duong, the National Cup in 2011 with Navibank Saigon FC, and the Merdeka Cup in 2008 with the Vietnam U22 team.
With the Vietnam women’s national team, Coach Mai Duc Chung has won the SEA Games six times (2003, 2005, 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023) and the Southeast Asian Championship once (2019); he also led the team to the 2014 Asian Games semi-finals and the 2023 World Cup finals.
He has guided the women’s team through numerous challenges and played a key role in bringing women’s football closer to fans. He is widely admired and respected by fans across the country.
