Dr. Toan Phan is a senior economist in the Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. He is also a co-author of the economics chapter in the Fifth U.S. National Climate Assessment and a visiting scholar at the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Financial Research.

His recent research focuses on the macroeconomic and financial system impacts of climate change. His work has been published in leading academic journals, such as the *American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics*; *Journal of Money, Credit and Banking*; *Journal of Economic Theory*; *Journal of International Economics*; *Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control*; and *Economic Theory*.

He joined the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond in July 2017, having previously served as an assistant professor of economics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned his Ph.D. from Northwestern University in 2012 and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Bucknell University in 2006.
